The Summer Disconnect

I like summer holidays: it’s the one time in the year that I mindfully and resolutely disconnect from my work e-mail.

My boss has been briefed about current stay of play on various issues and project, colleagues have received the advisory e-mail regarding my leave dates and what to do for matters that can’t wait for my return. Nobody is abandoned…the duty of care is upheld even when the feet and fingers are itching to go, go, go!

As soon as my “out of office” is turned on, I can start to relax and slow down: it’s the sign to close down the computer, tidy up my desk and LEAVE THE OFFICE!

The only person who can always call me on my break is my boss. We both mutually respect each other’s time with friends and family so we avoid being intrusive unless absolutely necessary. I think the last time my boss texted me on leave was to wish me “Happy Birthday”!Summer is a time to disconnect and re-charge those batteries. So, roll-on holidays. I’m going to enjoy mine and I hope you do too!
