The Message in the Waves

Post on December 17, 2014 by

Strolling on an African sandy beach with the sunshine reflecting off the water. What then should such an idyllic picture or activity conjure up? Why should we not just enjoy the occasion? You know, being in the now perspective as promoted by the Mindfulness faithful. Within the Mindfulness practice one is supposed to return their attention to the anchor once they are distracted.

In my case the anchor of being in the now was disturbed by a wave washing over my feet, splashing itself up my legs. The sensation of suddenly being cool and wet disturbed the train of thought, or should I say lack of it. The appreciation of the big picture with the warmth of the sun on my back was replaced. That weird beast called an exploring or questioning mind came to the fore.

Why?

Why was I interrupted by that one wave as it rushed as far as it could up the beach? Why not by the others? The mind briefly dabbled with the moon that at that moment wasn’t even it sight. The same moon that affected the oceans causing low and high tides. Yea, problem solved. The moon made my feet wet.

Well that is one answer that we could debate for a while.

Time to watch and learn. Yes the moon does have an effect on the tides but at the rate they change I could have moved out of the way. Were the waves the same? No, like people, they were different. Different in height, width and frequency just to mention a few dimensions. To me, the ones who came furthest up the beach were the ones who contrived to get some help. They waited for the one in front to break onto the beach and then broke just behind so that the combined energy would take them further together up the beach. Together they made a difference, wetting my feet.

If you want to go far, get the help that comes from a powerful partnership.

The sun warming your back and the moon wetting your feet – Magic.
