LinkedIn is great but let’s be honest – it’s not really a laugh a minute. But the other morning I had to admit I guffawed at Conan O’Brien’s video parody on how to conduct perfect performance reviews...I’m still chuckling when I think of it now.
It did make me think though of my annual performance review. A lot of EOPs, including myself, sit down to prepare and one of the first things that crosses our mind is “What have
I done this year apart from doing my job?” followed quickly by “What goals are we going to set for the next 12 months?” But once you start to write down all the projects in which you have been included, the initiatives taken for and on behalf of the departme
nt or at a corporate level, you realize that your input, your ideas, your creative solutions and pro-activeness are what differentiates an EOP who just sticks to the job description and one who goes that extra mile. And how do you know that you have gone that extra mile? When your boss says, “I don’t know what I would do without you.”
